Berkeley Residence

Berkeley, California

Roth/LaMotte Landscape Architecture worked in conjunction with Operation Architecture to design an addition and garden renovation for a residence in the Berkeley hills. With spectacular views to the bay and Tilden Park, the project emphasizes native plantings, rain and gray water catchment and de-synchronization - celebrating process while utilizing some of the original design concepts from Lawrence Halprin.

The focus of the garden is a water feature which recirculates rainwater through a runnel, stream and pond, negotiating both built forms and the original more natural forms. Other landscape features include a small, private outdoor patio, kitchen garden, and spa; all integrated closely with the design of the new addition.
