ROB HILL CAMPGROUND
The Presidio of San Francisco, The Presidio Trust
Completed Spring 2010

Design of site amenities for a newly renovated campground within San Francisco’s Presidio National Park. Work included the design of customized site furniture, native and historic plantings, fire pits, gathering areas and an amphitheater.





REDWOOD CREEK RESTORATION AT MUIR BEACH
Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy
2008-09

Design of visitor use improvements for the restoration of Redwood Creek at its mouth, at Muir Beach. Role includes coordination of restoration consultants to design boardwalk, bridge, parking and other visitor-use site amenities.





FORT MASON BAY TRAIL

Roth/LaMotte was hired by the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy to redesign and develop construction documents for the sidewalk, turf area, plantings and safety utilities at the interface of Bay Street and the park path that abuts it.





HAWK HILL NATURAL AND CULTURAL RESTORATION
Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy
2007-Present

Construction documents for the visitor use improvements at Hawk Hill, in the Marin Headlands. The work entails coordination with the current construction by the Federal Highway Administration, on Conzelman Road. Design includes grading, site furnishings, pavement types, and a small monument on the top of the Hill. The intent of the project is to redesign the visitor use experience along the Coastal Trail network while enhancing and celebrating existing natural resources, endangered species habitat, cultural/historic resources and safety.





MORI POINT BOARDWALK
Pacifica, CA - Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy
Completed October 2009

Roth/LaMotte designed a 550-foot long boardwalk along an historic road alignment through sensitive habitat for endangered species. The work entailed design, documentation and coordination with the park staff, biologists, engineers and construction crews.





SPRUCE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

CALIFORNIA COASTAL TRAIL SIGNAGE PROGRAM
Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy
2006-Present

Roth/LaMotte designed signage sites for over 20 sites throughout the Golden Gate National Recreation Area and the Presidio to create accessible trailhead signage. Design for this project has been completed and is scheduled for construction in phases over the next year.





LION, TIGER AND RHINOCEROS EXHIBIT
San Francisco Zoo
2007-2008

Roth/LaMotte worked with C+A Architects, to design and layout planting beds within and around these exhibits. We developed plant lists appropriate to the geography of the exhibit. Additionally we worked on the fine grading, irrigation and soil preparation in consultation with the Zoo horticultural staff.





GRIZZLY GULCH, SAN FRANCISCO ZOO
San Francisco Zoo
2006-2007

Roth/LaMotte was a sub consultant to C+A Architects for the design of the new Grizzly Bear exhibit at the San Francisco Zoo. Design included a native California meadow and screen plantings for both the exterior and interior of the exhibit. We consulted on design of the pool and waterfall, developed irrigation details to water the exhibit without introducing utilities into the exhibit interior.





VALLEY WELLS ROADSIDE INTERPRETIVE TRAIL AND REST AREA
Mojave National Preserve
2005-2006

Conceptual Landscape design by Roth/LaMotte Landscape Architects as sub-consultant for Leslie Stone Associates, for outdoor interpretive trail, signage and interpretive exhibits at a Cal Trans Rest Area in the Mojave Desert National Preserve. The project is a joint effort with The National Park Service, Desert Managers Group, Cal Trans and BLM.





ELLERHORST ELEMENTARY PUBLIC SCHOOL

Landscape design by Roth/LaMotte Landscape Architects in conjunction with Hamilton+Aitken Architects for outdoor space at East Bay public School. Project has been completed.





LOWER YOSEMITE FALLS PROJECT
Yosemite National Park
1998-2005

Project designed by Lawrence Halprin. Project management, presentation renderings, design, drafting, specifications and site observation at the Office of Lawrence Halprin, Inc., for a major redesign and renovation of the Lower Yosemite Falls trail system and visitors’ facilities. Project elements include new trails, walls, bridges, restroom, shuttle stop and removal of parking lot to create meadow. Public/Private Partnership. Project completed March 2005.





LETTERMAN DIGITAL ARTS CENTER

2000-2005

Project designed by Lawrence Halprin. Drafting, planting design, specification writing and partial site observation at the Office of Lawrence Halprin for 14 acre project for new offices for the Lucas Arts and associated companies at the Presidio in San Francisco, CA . Public/Private Partnership. Project completion Spring/Summer 2005.





STERN GROVE CONCERT MEADOW RENOVATION

Project designed by Lawrence Halprin. Drafting, planting design, specification writer at the Office of Lawrence Halprin for renovation of concert meadow in partnership with City of San Francisco and the Stern Grove Festival Association.





HAR NOF PROMENADE

Project designed by Lawrence Halprin. Project management, design facilitation, presentation renderings at the Office of Lawrence Halprin for a public promenade on the edge of the city in order to save the remaining forest from development.





GOLDMAN PROMENADE
Jerusalem, Israel
2000-2001

Project designed by Lawrence Halprin. Project management, design facilitation at the Office of Lawrence Halprin for design/construction of extension to an existing promenade overlooking the old city of Jerusalem. Project completed in 2002.





BARNSDALL PARK RENOVATION AND MASTER PLAN

Design Assistant at the office of Peter Walker William Johnson and Partners. Design included extensive restoration to historic Olive Grove and Pine Grove. Project published by Spacemaker Press, 1996.





SAITAMA PLAZA
Saitama, Japan
1996

Design Assistant at the office of Peter Walker William Johnson and Partners. Prepared design models and presentation design drawings for the City of Saitama. Winner of 2004 award in Landscape Architecture Magazine.





GUANICA STATE FOREST
Guanica, Puerto Rico
1993-1994

Project design and team leader for a team of three students funded by a grant through the U. of Penn Dept. of Geology. This project involved a month of field research on the most current issues of local ecology as it relates to the Mangrove and Subtropical Dry Dwarf Forests. This research was integrated into the design of an interpretive trail with interpretive signs and campground on a beautiful and remote coastline.





CERRO BLANCO PRESERVE
Guayaquil, Ecuador
1993

Consultant for Fundacion Natura. Designed master plan for South American forest preserve and consulted on organization of plant nurseries used for reforestation. The project included plans for long term reforestation goals and implementation methods working with the local community.





FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT MEMORIAL
Washington, District of Columbia
1990-92 & 1994

Project designed by Lawrence Halprin. Design Assistant at the Office of Lawrence Halprin. Worked on models, drawings and photographs for final design and funding approval for the completion of this long running project. Completed May 1997.





RESIDENTIAL & COMMERCIAL PROJECTS

BERKELEY RESIDENCE
Berkeley, California
2008-Present

Garden design, including partial renovation and update from a design by Lawrence Halprin. With spectacular views to the bay and Tilden Park, the project includes native plantings, recirculating rainwater catchment system, small private outdoor patio and kitchen garden, integrated closely with the design of a new addition.





MARIN COUNTRY MART AT LARKSPUR LANDING
Larkspur, California
2008-Present

Roth/LaMotte Landscape Architecture began this project as a design consultant to Lawrence Halprin. Following his passing the Owner retained our services to provide design oversite and construction administration. The effort has been aimed at re-branding the site to help enliven the space programmatically as well as aesthetically by providing informal spaces for gathering, play, farmer’s market and quiet contemplation. Construction of Phase I is to be completed in the Fall of 2010.





PETALUMA MIDTOWN SHOPPING CENTER
Petaluma, California
2005

Working in partnership with Crome Architecture to design plantings and irrigation for a renovation of a shopping center in downtown Petaluma. The project was completed in the spring of 2006.





SLEEPY HOLLOW RESIDENCE
San Anselmo, California
2005-06

A residence in San Anselmo on a 10 acre parcel. The house (Bridge House) is designed by architect, Stanley Saitowitz. The landscape is intended to be a healing effort to restore native bunchgrasses, protect seedling seasonal creek banks, preserve existing oak seedlings and create areas for the clients to inhabit.





SUNNYVALE SHOPPING CENTER
Sunnyvale, California
2004-06

Working in partnership with Crome Architecture to design plantings and irrigation for a renovation of a 50’s era shopping center in downtown Sunnyvale. The project was constructed in the fall of 2006.





LUCAS VALLEY OFFICE BUILDING
San Rafael, California
1998

Project design and management for Roth/LaMotte of management plan for an aging landscape. Project features are design of diverse and locally native riparian plantings, use of locally native plantings to replace diseased and inappropriate ornamentals. Project has successfully revegetated a locally native plant community for large island in a parking lot at the entrance to a large office building.





PORTOLA VALLEY RESIDENCE
Portola Valley, California
1997

Design Assistant at Schwartz and Assoc. Design, coordinate, and supervise installation of phased restoration of native plant community on four acres along San Francisquito Creek, San Mateo county. Plan includes oak woodland and riparian restoration, and site development for ecologically sound residential use. Work included coordination of regulatory permit application for restoration and construction.





ROSS GARDEN
Ross, California
2007

This project began with the need to replace a dark, depressing fence and retaining wall. The final design replaced those with a sense of permanence that also made them places that beckoned one to engage in the outdoors.





SLEEPY HOLLOW SWIMMING POOL

Project design, management and construction observation by Roth/LaMotte for new backyard with swimming pool, patio and improved relationship of interior space to pool garden.





NAPA RESIDENCE
Napa, California
1996

Design Assistant at Peter Walker William Johnson and Partners. Worked on design development drawings, grading plans and planting plan. Design included renovation to the edges of a man-made pond, extensive Lavender fields, large tree planting and pool renovation.
